Preparation Produces Results

Preparation Produces Results
By: May McCarthy

Have you ever heard people say, “I’m saving for a rainy day”? Or, perhaps you have a friend who has said “I don’t want to throw away my ‘fat’ clothes because I may need them some day.” Or, maybe you’ve overheard someone at your company say, “If we think about the worst that could happen we can be in a better position to weather the storm.”  Many people believe that statements like these help them to be better prepared in life.  I disagree.

Statements like these prepare a person for things that they don’t want to experience.  I’ve known people that have said that they were saving for a rainy day or creating an emergency fund and that’s exactly what they used their money for; an unexpected and unpleasant experience.  They would feel really good about saving and then a “rainy day” or “emergency” would show up as an unexpected event to deplete their savings. What if they decided instead to save their money for a wonderful trip, a new car, or a financially free life in retirement?

You are a powerful person! You will attract people and situations into your life as a result of the words, thoughts and emotions that you use.  You are always in a process of preparing, both consciously and unconsciously, for the life that you will live. Wouldn’t it be better to live a life that is filled with what you want?

Look at successful athletes who prepare to win; Seattle Seahawk Richard Sherman has said that he’s not particularly athletically gifted in comparison to some others in the NFL, but he's one of the top cornerbacks in the game because he studies and prepares – he talks about, thinks about, and feels that he is a winner long before he gets into the game. And, hall of fame college football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant said, "It's not the will to win that matters—everyone has that. It's the will to prepare to win that matters."

In business, companies that prepare and plan for growth and success achieve it faster than those that don’t.  If you want to achieve success, you must prepare for it!  Motivational speaker and author, Zig Ziglar, put it perfectly when he said “You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.” Use your words, thoughts, and emotions as a key part of your preparation for the life that you want to live.

To prepare for your great life, follow these simple steps:

  1. Change your words, thoughts, and emotions to describe what you want.

Think about your goals for perfect health, harmonious relationships, fulfilling and satisfying work, financial freedom, and more. Describe what your life would be like after achieving the goals and answer the following questions for each completed goal:

  • What are you experiencing?
  • How do you feel?
  • Who are you with?
  • Where are you?
  • How does achieving the goal affect others related to you, your company, your family, etc.?

As you review your answers to the questions above, you’ll be in a better position to change your words, thoughts, and emotions to describe your completed goals more fully so that you believe that you can achieve them.

  1. Make what you want familiar to you.

Read stories about other people achieving the kinds of things that you want. Go to places to see and experience the things that you desire. Attend events to meet people that have achieved the same kind of success that you aspire to. Do whatever you can to become familiar with the successes and achieved goals that you want to experience.

For example, when I decided that I wanted to write a book, feelings of fear showed up. My rational mind came up with excuses to dissuade me from pursuing the life of a published author.  To overcome this fear, I had to look for ways to make becoming a published author familiar to me.

            a. I read stories about other successful authors:

  • Eckhart Tolle used to sit on a park bench and talk with people about his ideas before he wrote a book.
  • Jack Canfield was rejected by a publisher until he traveled to get thousands of presales for his book, Chicken Soup for the Soul.

            b. I went to events to meet authors and learned about their journeys.

            c. I watched videos and discovered that many successful authors had at one time been just like me – they had no experience or training to be a published author.

All of this helped me to believe that “if they could be a published author, I could too.” Belief is a valuable part of preparation.

  1. Give-forth anything that doesn’t support the life that you want

To receive more of what you want in life, you need to make room within yourself to receive it. Each of us carries with us memories of experiences, situations, and people that were unpleasant in our lives. We may even have some judgement against ourselves.

In the daily practice that is outlined in my book, The Path to Wealth, I ask readers to end their day with gratitude for whatever has happened during the day that they appreciated, and to give-forth anything that is not supporting the goals that they want to achieve. You can do this too.

Right before bed each night, say out loud “Thank you for…” whatever has happened during the day that you appreciate. Then, just before you turn out the light to go to sleep, say the giving-forth prayer below. This removes anything that is not serving you and is taking up room within you, so that you can replace it with what you want. Things not serving you could be resentment, anger, un-forgiveness, jealousy, embarrassment, anxiety, or anything else that is not supporting your achieved goals.Recite the prayer below:

“CSO, if there is anyone from my past or present that I need to forgive, whether I remember them or not, I now do so.I bless them, I love them, I forgive them, and I release them into your care, for you to work with them in whatever way is best. And, if there is anyone from my past or present that needs to forgive me, including myself, they now do so and we are all free to experience a higher and greater good in our lives.”

You don’t have to believe this prayer. It still works. Saying it will free up room within you so that you can receive more of the Good things that you want in life. Be sure to say it out loud each night before going to sleep.

We live in an abundant universe which is always conspiring for your Good.  And, you are an incredibly powerful creation that deserves to experience more of what you want in life.  But, in order to do so, you need to prepare yourself to receive what you desire. Following the simple steps above can help you to do that. Blessings to you on your path to all that is Good.
